The Dallas County Young Democrats: An Overview
The Dallas County Young Democrats is one of the largest Democratic activist organizations in Dallas County, and one of the largest Young Democrats groups in the nation. With almost 600 members, the DCYDs are able to provide strong volunteer support to local Democratic and community events including parades, campaigns and rallies. The Dallas County Young Democrats is open to all Democrats between the ages of 16 and 36, and there are no membership dues.
The DCYDs hold monthly meetings (second Tuesday of every month) and happy hours (dates vary). Our meetings usually host speakers, and recent speakers have included Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Dallas Mayor Pro Tem John Loza and representatives of political activist groups such as the Texas Humane Legislation Network. Officers of our club are elected from and by our present membership every February, and serve one year terms.
Our current president is Jennifer Roberts, a longtime political activist and Dallas attorney. Prior to being elected to lead the DCYDs, Jennifer was the executive vice president of the organization. She is the female Texas representative to the National Committee of the Young Democrats of America.
Several DCYD members have run for public office, most recently state House candidate Katy Hubener. DCYD Board Member Greg Allbright was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for County Clerk in 2006.
